Who is D.I.V.A.S. IN SISTAHOOD ?
D.I.V.A.S. IN SISTAHOOD was founded in Washington, DC. in 2006, by five strong black educated women that worked in the District of Columbia School System. Starting out as a social group, D.I.V.A.S. IN SISTAHOOD decided to branch off to mentor young teens and young adults, due to what we were observing in our community.

D.I.V.A.S. IN SISTAHOOD is a private, community-based nonprofit organization that

assist and support pregnant/parenting young women that are homeless or have problems acquring permanent safe housing. Our primary vision is to mentor as well as enhance teens and young adults to maintain a healthy, self-sufficient life. Our goals are to develop, enhance and prepare each individual according to their needs. By implementing education, life skills and healthy living. They will also receive the capabilities to maintain a healthy and self-sufficient life.
OUR FOCUS

DIS GOAL

Homeless children and their parents in the District of Columbia outnumbered homeless single adults. The rise in homeless families is tied to a string of social and government failures, observers say. Some of the homeless are foster children who did not successfully transition to adulthood through some of the District's social service programs. Many are young women that became pregnant as teens, meanwhile many others have dropped out of troubled DC public schools and have little to no educational or formal job skills or trainings.

Our goal is to effectively help each and every single woman and their child that cross our threshold to receive our services and resources. We want to help them in battling the cultural stigmas that they face on a day to day basis and help them understand that life is easier when you have consistent support.
